Overview
This case can be used as a stand-alone case to teach students how to evaluate an important computer-aided engineering investment for a firm facing global, competitive pressures. The case is the last in a series on ABB and in this role allows students to examine how technology can be managed "locally" in a firm dedicated to achieving both "global and local" technology and market capabilities. There is a technical note titled Computer-Aided Engineering (UVA-IT-0008) that can (optionally) be used to support this case and the (A) and (B) cases (ABB Asea Brown Boveri (A): The Merger and ABB Asea Brown Boveri (B): A Federation of National Companies).
