Laura Kofoid is Divisional Merchandise Manager of a tool and hardware division in a large department store. The case describes her experiences on a buying trip in Tokyo when a middle management national asks Kofoid to attend a party with the manufacturing executives and her employees. The party will be held at a 'gentlemen's club,' and Kofoid is the only female executive. The purpose of this case is to let students analyze the woman's obligations in the situation. It explores women in business issues with particular attention to cross cultural situations.
